SYRIAS most prominent antiquities scholar, Khaled al-Asaad, was publicly beheaded just days ago by extremist militants in the amphitheatre of the World Heritage site of Palmyra. The killers then strapped al-Asaads corpse to one of the towns Roman columns and left it hanging for all to see.<\/p>\n
