GOMBAK, 30 July 2015: \u00c2\u00a0Forty\u00c2\u00a0students from JASA Club, IIUM, visited\u00c2\u00a0Kampung Bukit Cermin, Kuala Kangsar, Perak \u00c2\u00a0for two days from 10 July for a community service mission called ‘ Road to Ramadhan Kareem’ aimed for the Orang Asli.<\/p>\n

The first visit to the village was during\u00c2\u00a0Ramadhan and is\u00c2\u00a0focused towards helping the community improve\u00c2\u00a0their basic knowledge of Islam as well as to strengthen the relationship between the volunteers and villagers.<\/p>\n

With the theme, \u0153Colourful Ramadhan\u009d, featuring variety of activities aimed to show the beauty of Islam and encourage\u00c2\u00a0them to practice\u00c2\u00a0Islam in their daily life.\u00c2\u00a0The volunteers\u00c2\u00a0departed from IIUM on Friday and to reach the village volunteers were required to ride four wheel drives\u00c2\u00a0sponsored by Majlis Agama Islam Perak.<\/p>\n

Besides IIUM students, there were two\u00c2\u00a0representatives from Muslim Aid Malaysia\u00c2\u00a0and two\u00c2\u00a0from UNESCO IIUM participated in the programme. IIUM has\u00c2\u00a0collaborated with Muslim Aid on a similar programme since last year.<\/p>\n

Among the community engagement activities held were tafsir Al-Fatihah,<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0Ketuk-Ketuk Ramadhan<\/em>, Ziarah<\/em>, transculture session and Iftar Jamaie<\/em>. The volunteers taught\u00c2\u00a0al-Fatihah by using video clips to it easier to understand. Besides that, they also taught how to make Ondeh-Ondeh<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0and Popia Nestum<\/em> as a preparation for Aidilfitri celebration during Ketuk-Ketuk Ramadhan <\/em>slot.<\/em><\/p>\n

Apart from that, a session called “Amek” teaches\u00c2\u00a0volunteers how to\u00c2\u00a0to make\u00c2\u00a0traditional food like, Nyiru<\/em> and Tampi Beras<\/em>. To further bond with the villagers, they played games like running using coconut shell and\u00c2\u00a0bring ball using spoon.<\/p>\n

For the food parcel donation, they were handed\u00c2\u00a050 jars from Heliz Cookies, rice, oil and flour. Besides food parcel, there were\u00c2\u00a0also donated\u00c2\u00a0stationaries like,\u00c2\u00a0sejadah, telekung<\/em>,\u00c2\u00a0kain pelikat <\/em>and\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0hygiene kit consisted of toothbrush, soap and\u00c2\u00a0toothpaste.<\/p>\n

According to one of the recipients of the donation, Jamilah, 35, \u00c2\u00a0she was very happy to receive such donations from our team as this had helped reduced her family expenses.<\/p>\n

Programme Manager, Syarifuddin Sahlan\u00c2\u00a0said that he was\u00c2\u00a0grateful to have a highly spirited and committed team members willing to help the less fortunate and making this programme a successful one.<\/p>\n

Lets hope that this spirit of volunteerism will spread to as many people as possible, so we can revive the\u00c2\u00a0ummah<\/em>,\u009d he said.<\/p>\n
