ACCORDING to the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry, as many as one-third of the people in Kelantan do not have access to treated water. Ranked bottom in the country as a whole, here is a state that needs to move fast to improve its socio-economic standing so that its people do not suffer. And, what it does mean, too, is the folks in Kelantan are choosing to live in a Third World environment of underdevelopment. With Pas two-thirds majority in the state, the voters are choosing for hudud, a gross domestic product (GDP) lagging behind the rest of the country and gender segregation, in the name of Islam. How is this at all possible when there is free movement in and out of the state, which means Kelantanese can see how the other states fare with regard basic amenities, such as piped, clean water. Other Malaysians, even in the rural areas, take it for granted. It then begs the question \u0153why?\u009d. Why are voters in Kelantan willing to suffer such negative consequences of their votes?<\/p>\n
