An excise duty cut, announced by his predecessor P. Chidambaram in February and extended in June by Jaitley for six months through December, wont be renewed, a finance ministry official told reporters here, asking not to be identified citing rules. The tax break was introduced after car sales slumped amid an economic slowdown.
