KUALA LUMPUR, 29 June 2026: IIUM and the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) formalised a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Menara Aras Raya, Kuala Lumpur on Monday, 29 June 2026. The MoU signing ceremony was held as part of the Usrah in Action project under Section 30, continuing the efforts initiated by Section 20 under the guidance of Mrs. Julia Jasin in promoting meaningful community engagement and experiential learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MoU was signed by IIUM Rector, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar and SUHAKAM Chairman, Dato\u2019 Seri Mohd Hishamudin Md Yunus. The ceremony began with welcoming remarks, followed by speeches from both leaders, who highlighted the importance of fostering cooperation between academia and national institutions in promoting human rights awareness, ethical values and social responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by representatives from IIUM, SUHAKAM and international organisations, alongside delegates from IIUM participating in the Usrah in Action programme under Section 20 and Section 30. Also in attendance was Dr. Insa Ewert, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of the Political, Press and Information Section at the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Malaysia, whose presence underscored the importance of international collaboration in advancing human rights and shared values.<\/p>\n\n\n

Following the signing ceremony, SUHAKAM and IIUM officiated the soft launch of PROSPEK (Program Rehabilitasi, Orientasi Strategik dan Pemerkasaan Pegawai Penjara ke arah Kesejahteraan Prospek)<\/strong>, a rehabilitation and empowerment module developed by the Module Team of Usrah in Action Section 30. The module reflects the students\u2019 commitment to contributing innovative and sustainable initiatives that support professional development and rehabilitation within the prison system.<\/p>\n\n\n
