{"id":186491,"date":"2025-12-11T18:58:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T18:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=186491"},"modified":"2025-12-11T18:58:33","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T18:58:33","slug":"graduate-highlights-convocation-moment-with-sign-language-tribute-to-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=186491","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Highlights Convocation Moment with Sign Language Tribute to Parents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By, Qistina Rustam<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOMBAK, 11 December 2025: A Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology graduate, Mayyizah Ulfa Binti Jamaludin drew attention when she signed \u201cMommy and Daddy, I love you\u201d on stage after receiving her scroll as the final graduate in the sixth session of the 41st IIUM Convocation Ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sign language gesture was a personal expression of gratitude to her parents and family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She decided to use the gesture after being told the last graduate could perform something unique. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wanted to deliver a message that felt close and personal to me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having learned basic sign language during her studies, she also hoped the moment would highlight the importance of alternative communication. \u201cMany people assume speech is the only way to express emotions or thoughts.
