If we don’t, it is Allah’s protection,” said Muhamad Adam Hadfiz Bin Mustafa, Kulliyyah of Science, Best Student (Overall) at the 40th IIUM Convocation Ceremony on 20 November at IIUM Gombak. Despite excelling in Physics for his bachelor’s degree, he revealed it was not his first choice of study.

Born in Kuala Terengganu, 23-year-old Muhamad Adam Hadfiz Bin Mustafa, is the eldest of nine siblings. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Physics) (Honours). Despite his prior dream to pursue his ambition in mechanical engineering which he did not attain, he made a remarkable journey in being accorded with the Best Student (Overall) Award for a different major.

In an exclusive interview with IIUMToday, Adam Hadfiz shared that his initial plan took an unexpected turn into physics, which turned out to be a beautiful journey due to IIUM’s unique program structure. Rather than resisting the change, he embraced it with the mindset of ‘going with the flow’ and trusting Allah’s plan.

“I just went with the flow and alhamdulillah everything went well,” he stated.

Additionally, he credited his success to the combination of faith and constant effort. He explained how simple yet impactful habits like completing assignments on time, following lecturers’ instructions, and staying disciplined contributed to his success. He also emphasised the spiritual aspect like solat sunat tahajjud and reliance on Allah that played a significant role. He believed that academic success is a form of blessing.

“Put Allah first, Everything is Allah’s blessing, after all, rezeki is from Allah,” he stated

For students aspiring to follow in his footsteps, Adam Hadfiz advised them to maintain a strong relationship with both Allah and humans. He further explained degree life can be excellent if we focus on fulfilling the basics like attending classes, completing tasks, and staying disciplined. Most importantly he urged students to make time for spiritual growth alongside academics to excel.

Unplanned paths often lead to extraordinary outcomes. His dream of studying mechanical engineering turned into something even more meaningful. Who could have imagined he would become the Best Graduate of the Kulliyyah of Science in a field he did not plan to pursue? It is a reminder that Allah’s plans are always better than our own. When we trust Him, things have a way of working out beautifully.***

By, Safiera Athirah GOMBAK, 22 November 2024: “If we get what we want, it is Allah’s direction.
