KUALA LUMPUR, 17 November 2024: In a dynamic partnership aimed at aligning urban planning with sustainable practices, 17 students from the Kulliyyah of Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) teamed up with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) to conduct a comprehensive survey at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa on 9 November. The survey was designed to gather public opinion on local facilities and environmental initiatives, emphasizing the key principles of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) to drive more sustainable and inclusive urban planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students conducted a preliminary simulation of the survey in class to familiarize themselves with the process and fine-tune their engagement approach. This practice equipped them to interact confidently and professionally with park visitors, gathering valuable insights to inform data-driven improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timed for a bustling Saturday afternoon, the survey allowed students to reach a wide array of park-goers. They gathered feedback on the quality of park facilities, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and the safety of visitors. Environmental themes were also central to the survey, with questions on green infrastructure, including green septic systems, recycling initiatives, and expanded green spaces, all align with ESG goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis survey isn\u2019t just about collecting data,\u201d said an IIUM student involved in the project. \u201cIt\u2019s about engaging with the community to understand how we can enhance their surroundings while ensuring environmental responsibility, social well-being, and effective governance.\u201d Many visitors expressed gratitude for the opportunity to voice their concerns, particularly in areas that impact the park\u2019s sustainability and social inclusivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The findings from this survey will be presented to DBKL contributing to urban planning strategies that reflect the city\u2019s commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and social equity. The partnership highlights the importance of incorporating ESG elements into city management, ensuring that public spaces meet current needs and contribute to long-term environmental and social sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this successful partnership, IIUM students and DBKL are paving the way for future collaborations to create vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable urban spaces that reflect the values of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and good governance.***<\/p>\n\n\n\n
