AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) held a special session with the newly-appoointed rector of the IIUM, Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar on 13 November 2024 at the kulliyyah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event began with opening remarks from the Dean of AHAS KIRKHS, Prof. Dr. Shukran Abd. Rahman himself. In his opening speech, he shared the history of the kulliyyah, highlighted its 11 departments \u2014 from Islamic Revealed Knowledge (IRK) to Human Sciences (HS) divisions \u2014 and presented the academic activities along with the kulliyyah\u2019s vision and mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Dr. Shukran also touched on the IIUM\u2019s seven missions and their saliency as the nucleus of the university\u2019s academic activities, research, innovation, community engagement, and publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also spotlighted the kulliyyah\u2019s four functions, which include the intellectual, social, educational, and spiritual development functions and expressed that these functions cannot be realised without the forces that accompany them \u2014 namely, academic members, higher-education professionals, graduate researchers, and undergraduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEach year, we have our imperative statement. This year, our goal is to cultivate wisdom, inspire excellence, and shape the future,\u201d said Prof. Dr. Shukran as he passed the podium to Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar to deliver his speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" data-id=\"181052\" src=\"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/photo_2024-11-14_20-58-58-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-181052\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/photo_2024-11-14_20-58-58-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/photo_2024-11-14_20-58-58-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/photo_2024-11-14_20-58-58-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/photo_2024-11-14_20-58-58.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar delivering his speech<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In his speech, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Osman Bakar asserted that AHAS KIRKHS is the centre of all the departments at IIUM, as it serves as the body for the heart (the course),&nbsp; the Qur\u2019an and Sunnah Studies, which he described as the emblem of an Islamic university.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the academic aspect, he asserted \u201cI would like to see IIUM excel in the field of scholarship. We want our publications to gain international recognition rather than remain solely local.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from that, he celebrates the importance of hosting an \u2018Inaugural Professorial Lecture\u2019 for AHAS KIRKHS professors, stating that this is not only a way to acknowledge their scholarly contributions to the IIUM but also, prominently, as part of the Islamic tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, he proposed renaming some departments.
