GOMBAK, 24 August 2023: The event ‘Chronicling Muslim Lives: A Creative Writing Competition’ is set to take place from 15 August to 3 December 2023 for aspiring student writers to display their literary skills and earn recognition in the creative writing competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The creative writing competition is co-organised by The Institute of Muslim Unity (IIMU) and IIUMs Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS), represented by The BENL Chronicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition is open to all IIUM students (both undergraduates and postgraduates). The first place winner will receive a cash prize of RM200, while up to seven participants will receive prizes ranging from RM50 to RM100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, selected stories will be published in a book, while many of the stories will be published online on The BENL Chronicle platform. The winners and published writers will be honoured at a special award ceremony, where their talents will be celebrated among fellow writers and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To participate, students must write an original short story that revolves around the lives of Muslims and their social issues, covering any of the following themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Society and family <\/li>
  • Health and environment <\/li>
  • Economy <\/li>
  • Education and creativity <\/li>
  • Values and morality<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of two short stories and all submissions must be written in English. The word count for each story should fall within the range of 1000 to 5000 words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
