{"id":166062,"date":"2022-06-08T07:52:56","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T07:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=166062"},"modified":"2022-06-08T07:53:00","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T07:53:00","slug":"four-outstanding-malaysian-youths-accepted-into-prestigious-us-service-academies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=166062","title":{"rendered":"Four outstanding Malaysian youths accepted into prestigious US service academies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By Siti Solehah<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, 8 June 2022 &#8211; Four outstanding Malaysian youths have been accepted to continue their studies at prestigious service academies in the United States (US) which would prepare them to become future Malaysian military officers, according to <em>BERNAMA.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are former Royal\nMilitary College (RMC) students Qarin Loqman Safriza and Muhammad Danish Imran\nZainudin who will be attending the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another two students &#8212;&nbsp;Edlan Mikyad&nbsp;Ahmad Syamly and Zarif Mohd Zamrin who had recently&nbsp;completed their foundation programme at the&nbsp;National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) will enrol&nbsp;in the&nbsp;US&nbsp;Military Academy (West Point) in New York and US&nbsp;Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>US Embassy Charge d&nbsp;Affaires&nbsp;Michael Newbill who presented the four students with their certificates of appointment&nbsp;in a ceremony held at the embassy here on Tuesday (7 June), said&nbsp;69 countries were invited to nominate candidates with the goal to enrol 15 students in each of the service academies this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0153Less than 20 per\ncent of international applicants were selected.
