{"id":163018,"date":"2022-03-07T14:06:32","date_gmt":"2022-03-07T14:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=163018"},"modified":"2022-03-07T14:24:54","modified_gmt":"2022-03-07T14:24:54","slug":"six-districts-of-klang-valley-were-affected-by-flash-floods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=163018","title":{"rendered":"Six districts in Klang Valley affected by flash floods"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>By Farradiba<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, 7 March 2022: Flash floods swept over various regions of the Klang Valley this afternoon, following persistent rain since 3 p.m., the <em>mainstream media<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The National\nDisaster Management Agency (NADMA) verified the occurrence, and the region\nsurrounding the Dang Wangi Police Station was reported to be flooded. The\naffected areas were Jalan Sultan Ismail\/Jalan Ampang, Jalan Leboh Ampang, Jalan\nRaja Laut, and Jalan Kia Peng\/Jalan Raja Chulan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\nNADMA&#8217;s Facebook page, the river surpassed the warning level in Sentul-Sungai\nBatu, Sulaiman Bridge-Sungai Klang, Lebuh Pasar-Sungai Klang, and Jalan\nParlimen-Sungai Gombak, while exceeding the danger level in Jalan Tun\nRazak-Sungai Gombak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;At 1.35 pm this afternoon, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning for Selangor, including Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also affected until 5 p.m., and so are Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau) and Melaka (Alor Gajah). &#8220;At 2.50 p.m. and 4 p.m., we renew our warnings,&#8221; according to NADMA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NADMA advises\nthe public to constantly exercise care, be aware of the surrounding\nenvironment, and focus on personal safety during floods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,\naccording to a tweet from Kuala Lumpur City Hall&#8217;s (DBKL) Traffic Info, flash\nfloods also struck six districts, including the Tabung Haji Tunnel, the Chan\nSow Lin Tunnel Jalan Pudu, Jalan Sri Permaisuri, Jalan Tun Razak, and Jalan\nPahang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other sites affected by flash floods include the direction of Kg. Pandan roundabout towards Jalan Sultan Ismail; the road is accessible, but cars move slowly due to stagnant water beneath the Jalan Tun Razak tunnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\nDBKL, stagnant water beneath the Cheras Circle tunnel leading to Universiti\nKebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) in both directions, Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan\nRaja Chulan, and Jalan Raja Laut behind the MARA building, and Jalan di Masjid\nAl-Syyakirin KlCC were also ascended to the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jalan Genting\nKlang has been rerouted to the Pahang roundabout. The tunnel beneath the Pahang\nroundabout has been flooded, the Hishamuddin roundabout has been blocked, Jalan\nKuching has been elevated to the Segambut roundabout, and Jalan Parlimen has\nbeen elevated to the Datuk On the roundabout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ITIS DBKL has informed that the SMART Tunnel has been shut down in preparation for flood operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,\nseveral highways have been blocked due to flash floods that struck the majority\nof the capital, resulting in continuing congestion on main thoroughfares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\nITIS DBKL, congestion occurred between Bandar Tasik Selatan and Desa Tun Razak,\nbetween Ampang and Ukay Perdana; and between Ukay Perdana and Ampang for users\nof the Middle Ring Road 2.
