KUALA LUMPUR, 2 July 2021: Malaysia will carry out enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on several localities in Kuala Lumpur and many parts in Selangor for two weeks starting from Saturday (July 3), as COVID-19 cases continue to soar higher, especially in Klang Valley. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was imposed by the National Security Council in discussion with the Health Ministry after all districts in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded COVID-19 cases surpassed 12.1 per 100,000 residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0153On an average, Selangor recorded 1,800 to 1,900 cases daily, while Kuala Lumpur had between 600 and 1,000 cases daily,\u009d Senior Minister (Security), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement on Thursday (July 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that the R-naught number (infectivity rate) remains at 1.0 and no downward trend being shown, albeit a nationwide lockdown since 1 June. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0153This is a worrying situation given we take into account the density of residents and spread of three new variants which are more dangerous,\u009d he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the latest implementation of the EMCO, all roads in the\nareas affected will be closed and guarded by the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only one person from each household is allowed to leave the home to buy basic necessities, and travel limited within a 10km radius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0153All factories in the affected areas will be shut down, excluding\nthose producing essential needs such as food, face masks and medicine,\u009d he\nsaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had presented a four-phase exit plan out of the pandemic, bringing the current lockdown as the first place, while a more relaxed second phase will maintain much of the curbs while permitting more of the economic sectors to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
