This insightful event was organised by the Dakwah and Ibadah Bureau of Mahallah Zaid bin Harithah Representative Committee (MRC) 2020/2021 in collaboration with Rabithah Ulama Ahlus Sunnah Malaysia.

The first panelist was Ustaz Umar Aiman bin Osman. He is currently working as a teacher at Ibn Khaldun Secondary School in Shah Alam. He is also a member of Rabithah Ulama Ahlus Sunnah, a speaker at HaluanTV and an active preacher at the local musolla and mosques around Shah Alam since the past 12 years.

The second speaker of this programme was Ustaz Mohd Haris bin Che Anuar. He is also a fellow teacher at the same school as the first speaker and also a member of Rabithah Ulama Ahlus Sunnah Malaysia.

The first round of the forum started with the explanation of the brief history behind Isra and Mikraj. Ustaz Haris explained thoroughly about the loss of two figures who supported the dakwah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH and his trip to Taif. He further explained that Allah SWT made this event to console the heart of His Prophet (PBUH) and to make solat obligatory to all Muslims.

The next round was about solat as a way to prevent bad deeds and how it can prevent bad deeds in a person who commits it and this question was handled by Ustaz Umar. He replied that solat could definitely prevent it, but it is up to the quality of the solat of the doer that will decide whether it can help the doer avert from doing bad deeds.

The act of solat itself has its own philosophy behind it as Ustaz Umar mentioned that it taught us many things including discipline and to be punctual. “Solat is also a form of rest for those who really immerse themselves and understand the act of worship.”

The third round was on the question of how solat shaped the best generation of mankind who were the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) and this was addressed by Ustaz Haris. In his explanation to the question, the ustaz said solat done by the companions or the sahabahs involved an incredible khusyu in their solat and taken very seriously.

He told a story about a sahabah who donated his field of dates because he was distracted by it during his solat and deemed that he needed to be punished by it even though the Prophet (PBUH) had yet to punish when he asked for his counsel on the matter. “This shows how the sahabahs made solat their priority in everything that helped them to become the best generation brought out from mankind.”

The final question addressed by Ustaz Umar is about “how solat can shape the youth of today as the best Muslims just as the generation of sahabahs“. He argued that youth of today need to take solat seriously.

He said: “We need to prioritise our solat before we are going to do anything. In whatever condition or wherever we perform solat, it is a must and we cannot delay it for something else especially if we have nothing urgent to do.”

We were also advised to seek what could be done to improve our solat and to add complimentary solat such as during the time of dhuha, before and after obligatory solat and to commit some time at night time to pray and do qiamullail.

Their final advice to the viewers and to themselves is “to never leave solat and we need to make ourselves closer to Allah especially during these hard and challenging times”.

The sharing session, moderated by Hazmi Irsyad, was held live on Facebook and watched by over 100 people among IIUM students and the public.

All recorded sessions are available at Facebook @Mahallah Zaid bin Harithah.
