{"id":146582,"date":"2020-12-21T12:21:30","date_gmt":"2020-12-21T12:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=146582"},"modified":"2020-12-21T12:21:34","modified_gmt":"2020-12-21T12:21:34","slug":"covid-19-update-2018-cases-and-one-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=146582","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 update: 2,018 cases and one death"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <strong><em>By Nabila Natasha<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOMBAK, 21 December 2020: Malaysias 2,018 new COVID-19 infections meant that its cumulative number of cases has exceeded that of Chinas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a press conference today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country now has 95,327 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The world figures are led by the United States, which has recorded about 17.9 million cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Malaysia saw one COVID-19 death of a non-citizen, bringing the death toll to 438 in the country so far. Meanwhile, seven cases are imported, while the rest are local transmissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of people with active COVID-19 infections in Malaysia now stands at 16,496. A total of 109 patients are in intensive care unit (ICU), with 55 requiring ventilator support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, 1,084 COVID-19 patients have been discharged, which means 78,393 people or 82.2% have recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selangor continued to record the highest increase of the day with 1,204 confirmed cases or 59.7% of todays total.
