{"id":142297,"date":"2020-09-01T16:05:27","date_gmt":"2020-09-01T16:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=142297"},"modified":"2020-09-01T16:11:38","modified_gmt":"2020-09-01T16:11:38","slug":"celebrating-leadership-and-autonomy-in-iium-student-union-book-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=142297","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating leadership and autonomy in IIUM Student Union book launch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>By\nAriani Mohd Nor<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GOMBAK, 1 September 2020: A book entitled \u0153Student Union: <em>Generasi Baharu Gerakan Mahasiswa<\/em>\u009d (English: The New Generation of Student Movement) was launched here in IIUM today to commemorate student leadership and independent autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book, which was launched by Associate Professor Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Deputy Rector from the Office of Student Development &amp; Community Engagement (ODRSCE), and Amir Nadzim, IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU) President, encompasses the hustle and bustle of the members of the IIUMSU to make the entity known in the university as well as the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0153The book is first of its kind, written and launched by the students,\u009d Dr. Zulkifli said in his opening speech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0153It mirrors the contents of the book as a remembrance that students are in control of their future,\u009d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amir Nadzim\nthen added that this book will not only reflect the IIUMSUs motto that serves\nthe student autonomy, but also as a reflection of the student autonomy in an\nIslamic university \u201c \u0153From the students, for the <em>Ummah<\/em>, by the students,\u009d\nAmir said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book\nlaunch was then followed by a forum titled <em>Mahasiswa dan Pembangunan Negara Halatuju\nReformasi Negara<\/em> (English: Student and Development of Nation towards Higher\nEducational Reformation), moderated by Farida Hanim, IIUMSU committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forum focused on empowering students and how to overcome the \u0153culture of fear\u009d that has hindered students from speaking up for their rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the panelists were Julfitri Joha, President of the Malaysian Youth Council;
