GOMBAK, 11 November 2018: IIUM became the first university in Malaysia to use E-Scroll system for its\u00c2\u00a034th<\/sup>\u00c2\u00a0convocation ceremony that took place this Saturday (10 November) and would continue until Tuesday (13 November) next week.<\/p>\n

The E-Scroll system uses Blockchain technology developed by a team led by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Norbik Bashah Idris from Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT) to scan the QR code printed on the certificate.<\/p>\n

This followed a concern by the Ministry of Education on the issue of fake certificate that has been cited globally.<\/p>\n

A total of 5,413 graduands receive their scrolls during the four-day convocation which is divided into seven sessions.\u00c2\u00a0The first session involved 470 graduands.<\/p>\n

The new award, Ibnu Khaldun Merit Award,\u00c2\u00a0was given to a non-government organisation (NGO), the Consumers Association of Penang (CAP).<\/p>\n

In his speech at the convocation ceremony on Saturday, the Minister of Education,\u00c2\u00a0Dr. Maszlee Malik, who is also the President of IIUM, reminded graduands on three values to be practised outside – love, happiness and mutual respect.<\/p>\n

\u0153These are the values and culture we want to instil in our education system in this period of Malaysia Baru,” he said.<\/p>\n

In conjunction with this year’s convocation, there will be Stall and Exhibition 2018 (STANEX) organised by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC).
