{"id":121386,"date":"2018-04-30T11:00:04","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T03:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=121386"},"modified":"2018-05-01T07:45:26","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T23:45:26","slug":"bangladeshis-hold-pahela-baishakh-celebration-first-time-in-iium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=121386","title":{"rendered":"Bangladeshis hold \u0153Pahela Baishakh\u009d celebration first time in IIUM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Muhammad Rulli Mandafar<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>GOMBAK, 30 April 2018 \u201c For most people across the globe, a New Year celebration might come once in a year, but for people in many parts of Bangladesh, they cannot wait to make merry and indulge their hearts&#8217; contents to celebrate their respective regional new year.<\/p>\n<p>Bengalis around the globe celebrate \u0153Pahela Baishakh\u009d (1425th Bengali New Year) on 14 April.\u00c2\u00a0 Also known as \u0153Bangla Noboborsho\u009d, the auspicious day marks the first day of the first month (Baishakh) of the lunisolar Bengali calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrated by the IIUM Bangladeshi community, \u0153Pahela Baishakh\u009d was the first ever held in IIUM.<\/p>\n<p>Rifath Riaz Biku, who was one of the committee members said, \u0153This is our traditional event in welcoming Bengali New Year, and this is the first time in IIUM. We are so happy to organise this programme because it is a platform to introduce Bangladesh culture to the IIUM community.\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Conducted in HS Square, the event was open to all members of the IIUM community where various activities such as games, sing along the anthem and cultural performance were conducted. An award giving ceremony was also held for Bangladeshi students who performed well in their studies.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a traditional Bangladeshi food festival for all foreigners who attended the event.<\/p>\n<p>No Bengali celebration is ever complete without good food, and a good round of desserts. The Bengali New Year is no different.
