GOMBAK, 8 June 2017: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is inviting scholars, experts and professionals to submit their research papers for an upcoming conference titled \u02dcInternational Conference on Bediuzzaman Said Nursi’s Thought on Wasatiyyah and an Exemplary Society scheduled to take place in IIUM’s campus in Gombak from 23 to 25 September this year.<\/p>\n

Organised by IIUM’s Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS) in collaboration with the Hayrat Foundation of Turkey, and the International Institute for Muslim Unity, the conference is expected to discuss a number of significant topics relevant to the issues of the Muslim world today.<\/p>\n

These\u00c2\u00a0topics include \u02dcThe role of faith in nurturing exemplary individuals and society, \u02dcEthical values and Wasatiyyah, ‘Selfish desires that corrupt the individual and society’, ‘Individual and collective duties towards building a moderate society’, ‘The role of community leaders and Muslim NGOs in promoting Wasatiyyah’, \u02dcFactors that contribute to extremism, \u02dcRelations with Muslims and with people of other faiths, ‘Islamic unity as a means for achieving Wasatiyyah’, and ‘Wasatiyyah: Pedagogical issues’.<\/p>\n

The speakers who will be making presentation on the topics include the following:-<\/p>\n

Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Zaleha bt Kamarudin – Rector of IIUM<\/p>\n

Said Yavuz – Hayrat Foundation Ankara<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Rahmah Ahmad Hj.Osman – Dean of IRKHS<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Thameem Ushama – Professor of IRKHS<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Waleed Fekry Faris – Director of the International\u00c2\u00a0Institute for Muslim Unity<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr.\u00c2\u00a0Mohd. Kamal Hassan – Professor of IRKHS<\/p>\n

The conference will be centred around a renown Turkish Muslim scholar of late 19th and early 20th centuries, Bediuzzaman Said Nursi, who expounded on the concept of moderation (Wasatiyyah) and had preached against extremism, radicalism and terrorism.<\/p>\n
