{"id":115208,"date":"2017-05-05T22:35:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T14:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=115208"},"modified":"2017-05-06T11:54:47","modified_gmt":"2017-05-06T03:54:47","slug":"students-embark-on-community-engagement-project-for-ramadhan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=115208","title":{"rendered":"Students embark on Community Engagement Project for Ramadhan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Qistina Kamal<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GOMBAK, 5 May 2017: In the spirit of celebrating the fasting month which is just around the corner, a total of 70 volunteers from IIUM will repaint and refurbish the Al-Nasuha shelter home or better known as <em>Pertubuhan<\/em> <em>Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim\u00c2\u00a0Al-Nasuha<\/em> located in Gombak.<\/p>\n<p>The Al-Nasuha Ramadhan project is a community engagement initiative spearheaded by undergraduate students from the Department of Communication, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the biggest community engagement project ever initiated with the involvement of four major Communication associations and entities; the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Students Association (IPRMSA) &#8211; IIUM Chapter, Communication Student Association (COSA), IIUM.fm and IIUMToday,&#8221; said programme manager of Al-Nasuha Ramadhan Project, Mohd Nasruddin.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers will repaint the dormitories and the dining hall, and tidy up the compound. They will also spend quality time with the children.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to this, volunteers have initiated a fund-raising effort on campus. &#8220;The support is overwhelming and we also received dental care kit from Mumin Sdn Bhd,&#8221; said Nasruddin. &#8220;Beside refurbishment and painting equipment, the money will be mainly used to buy basic needs for the children to prepare for Ramadhan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Al Nasuha Ramadhan Project, among others, is aimed to instill the spirit of volunteerism, generosity and willingness to render a helping hand among students. <em>Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<em>Al-Nasuha<\/em> is a charity based entity that shelters orphans and under-privileged children of the age of 1 year to 18 years old.
