{"id":110039,"date":"2016-10-23T10:00:15","date_gmt":"2016-10-23T02:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=110039"},"modified":"2016-10-22T21:17:33","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T13:17:33","slug":"mohe-iium-varsity-women-games-2016-gets-overwhelming-participation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.iium.edu.my\/?p=110039","title":{"rendered":"MOHE-IIUM Varsity Women Games 2016 gets overwhelming participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Siti Nurhasimah<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>GOMBAK, 23 October 2016 &#8211; International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) in collaboration with the Ministry of High Education (MOHE) has organised &#8220;MOHE-IIUM Varsity Women Games (VWG) 2016&#8221; for the second time from 14 until 16 October 2016 at Female Sports Complex, IIUM Gombak.<\/p>\n<p>This tournament saw an overwhelming participation of 500 athletes from various institutions of higher learning (both public and private) in Malaysia. IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato&#8217; Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin said the event aimed to increase participation among women in sports especially among female university students.<\/p>\n<p>The uniqueness that has been maintained by the organiser is the involvement of women as backbone for the programme. &#8220;From team officers, referees, secretariat staff until security officers and technical staff, this difference has been brought again in this tournament,&#8221; said Norsharmila Zabadi, who was with the organiser of VWG 2016.<\/p>\n<p>She said that in 2015, VWG became the women&#8217;s conducted event for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>A total of five sports contested in this event were netball, volleyball, petanque, dodge ball and touch rugby.
