GOMBAK, 15 March 2016: Discussions on Malaysia Sehati Sejiwa<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0organised by We Unite for Islam (WUFI) which was scheduled last night had been postponed because it was claimed that the event failed to follow certain procedures.<\/p>\n

\u0153We were advised by the security and the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law (AIKOL) to cancel the discussion tonight as it was claimed that the event didn’t follow the procedure as outlined by the university. Therefore, we decided to postpone the discussion so as to abide by the procedures stated by the university,” the Chairman of WUFI, Yazid Khairul Azman said.<\/p>\n

However in jest, he added, ‘We will not succumb to spreading the culture of knowledge here.\u009d<\/p>\n

This event entitled Malaysia Sehati Sejiwa<\/em> was supposed to discuss current issues in the country by a three-member panel consisting of Yazid Khairul Azman, President of Gabungan Mahasiswa Islam Semalaysia (GAMIS), Muhammad Afiq Awang Bakar, and spokesperson of Challenger, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.<\/p>\n

\u0153Political discussion in the civil environment like this is not excessive. I personally believe IIUM students are matured enough to comprehend this kind of discussion. This is not in a sense a discussion into violence,\u009d said Syed Saddiq who is also a student of AIKOL.<\/p>\n

The Square was barricaded since 6.00 p.m but a number students had already gathered to follow the discussion. However, the programme had turned into short speeches by the speakers after they were given only five minutes by the IIUM security personnel to speak.<\/p>\n

They were moved to the HS cafeteria after that before being instructed to stop. The situation was under control and students began to disperse peacefully following that.<\/p>\n

There was a blackout last night at three locations: Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law (AIKOL), Kulliyyah of Economic and Management Sciences (KENMS) and Human Sciences building***<\/p>\n
