Women in the workforce

The Securities Commission recently launched an initiative that will prise open the figures for female labour force participation in the private sector. The Gender Diversity Index (GDI), which every company must include in its annual report, will state the gender composition of the company from the boardroom to the shop floor, so to speak. The goal of this exercise is to ensure that trends are reversed and that companies will reflect the 30 per cent target of women in decision-making level and elsewhere: board members, senior and middle management and employees. Come next year, the country will know what the gender distribution in the private sector is and whether there is gender equality, which in Nordic countries must comprise the ratio 60:40 either way.
