Member states should not view AEC as competition

Among all the issues confronted by Asean today, the Asean Economic Community (AEC) stands out the most. Articles and analyses about the AEC fall in the range of œtoo much and œtoo many. Opportunities and challenges are often the main topics of discussion. Each member state is preparing for the AEC. What is strange is that the notion of œcommunity is almost lost as the states prepare themselves œindividually rather than as a unit. It seems we are marching towards Dec 31 as if AEC is an economic version of the SEA Games.
