Man brings WW2 bomb to police station

GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old man delivered an inactive World War 2 bomb found at the Air Itam dam to the police station today. Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Alatrash Wahid said the mortar shell was wrapped in a black plastic bag. "The mortar shell was intended to be used to light up its surroundings in combat. "It is no longer active and the item poses no threat to the public," Mior said. Media members packed the police station when the news broke out. The bomb was packed in a special bomb bag and transferred out in a police mobile patrol vehicle that left the station about 3.15pm. Mior said the item was detonated by the bomb disposal unit at Bukit Gambir shortly afterwards.
