MALAYSIA Day is the most historic day in the nations history. Malaysians everywhere celebrate the anniversary of the birth of a nation, a moment in time when three former colonies separated by the South China Sea came together to form a single sovereign territory. The Federation of Malaysia came into being on Sept 16, 1963, comprising the Federation of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore. While the last may have gone its separate way in 1965, the other three stayed together to grow from strength to strength. As the country stands on the threshold of becoming a fully developed nation just shy of 60 years of its formation” an achievement envied by other former colonies, some of which have failed as modern nation states ” Malaysians can salute the national ensign with pride. For a relatively young country, it has made the leap to modernity quite seamlessly despite the odds.
