SEVENTY years ago, the Nuclear Age began with an unprecedented bang that continues to reverberate across the world. It began on Aug 6, 1945, when the United States detonated a uranium bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima, completely destroying it and instantly killing about 100,000 people. Many more of the victims later succumbed to the lethal effects of radiation.
