SOME personal reflections on what it means to be a Malaysian, and what it means to be a global citizen in this trying time: My hometown of Bentong, with its multiracial and multi-religious setting taught me acceptance of different ways of life. Built through tin mining, it was a Chinese town surrounded by Malay kampung and Tamil rubber estate workers. And the blend of cultures left some powerful impressions. To this day, I can vouch that Kow Pohs ice cream is second to none, while his yong tow foo is out of this world.
