The no-hope ˜Harapan Baru

TO be or not to be? It has been thought of and so it will be. Unfortunately, it is not that simple for the so-called Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), much talked-about but thus far with very little to show for. And, as the saying goes, œtalk is cheap! Well-worn clichés waiting to jump on a page describing the sorry state of Parti Islam Se-Malaysias (Pas) splinter group comprising long-standing top-notch members proffering professionalism, as opposed to religiosity, and soundly beaten at the last party election a few months back by the ulama or clergy faction. For having been so mercilessly defeated by the delegates, this group, dubbed the Anwaristas, peevishly decided to attack the party leadership, accusing it of not being progressive. Central to this position is the ulama factions call to end cooperation with the Chinese-based, secular Democratic Action Party (DAP) for openly denigrating its decision to implement hudud in Kelantan.
