Solving Johors skilled worker flight

ACCORDING to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, skilled workers of the state are fleeing for greener pastures, Singapore and the Klang Valley being the destinations of choice. To stem this tide, he has proposed that the Federal Government emulate the British governments plan to compel firms to reveal the details of their workers salaries. Whereas in Britain the aim is to close the gender gap and ensure that women are paid wages equal to those of men doing similar work, here, however, the aim would be to find out if employers in Johor are not matching the salaries offered elsewhere, thus encouraging the undesirable outward movement of their workers, which could threaten the states development. Wages, Khaled argued, should be streamlined throughout the country to present a level-playing field.
