A SURVEY of the taxi service of 10 cities in the world puts Kuala Lumpur right at the bottom. For a country proud of being ranked highly for its hospitality and friendliness, this is surely the pits. The survey, by LondonCabs.co.uk, a Britain-based taxi comparison website, found the vehicles wanting and the drivers dishonest. How much worse can it be? The other cities included were Rome, Bangkok, Paris, New York, Mumbai, Zurich, Cairo, Shanghai and Moscow, major tourist destinations all. In many other cities, the bad drivers are just as difficult as those in Kuala Lumpur. They refuse to use the meter, they take longer routes, presumably because the meter is on, and they overcharge their passengers. Often, the taxis are old and in poor condition. The survey did say that it managed to turn up some nightmares ” drivers one would want to avoid.
