MAB rises from MAS ashes

WILL the phoenix rise from the ashes? Will Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) take to the skies from the ruins of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and remain sky-high again, numbering among the worlds classiest airlines? Given the restructuring of the company, which has faithfully followed the advice of experts, including carrying out the largest retrenchment exercise in the country, where 6,000 of the airlines 20,000 employees were laid off to achieve the one-third staff streamlining proposed, this is the hope. The rest will be re-employed by MAB. The somewhat questionable nature of the layoffs requires Khazanah Nasional, MAS sole shareholder, to do everything possible to assist in the comfortable transitioning of former staff members to a new life of their choice. A Corporate Development Centre has been set up to come up with a database of 12,000 job openings, giving priority to ex-MAS employees. It also guides candidates towards a successful interview. Available, too, is assistance for those who choose self-employment.
