THE discovery of mass graves on the Malaysian side of the Malaysia-Thai border can only mean one thing ” that there are indeed Malaysians among the human traffickers. Recently, Thai authorities discovered mass graves of irregular migrants and deserted transit camps on their side of the border. Part of those rounded up and arrested were officials of their local bureaucracy. Although there was speculation that Malaysians were involved, evidence was needed. Now, that evidence has dramatically surfaced. In all, 139 graves and 26 transit camps were found by the countrys police on a hilly terrain. Even though the graves have yet to be exhumed, there is no doubting that human traffickers are active in the border areas. Whether there is cross-border collaboration is a matter that investigations will discover, but given that Malaysia is the reported preferred destination of these irregular migrants, logic would suggest no less.
