GOMBAK, 22 May 2015: The Students’ Representative Council (SRC), IIUM in collaboration with The Acehnese Student Association and Al-Aqsa Friends Society held a fundraising event for the Rohingya migrants, called ‘Humanitarian Solidarity for Muslim Rohingya and Bangladesh refugees at Aceh’ today.
The donation will be sent directly to help the Muslim Rohingya and Bangladesh migrants in Aceh, Indonesia. A generous sum of donations were received from PETRONAS staff, Mahallah representatives and from the event of the day as well.
In light of the biggest exodus of Rohingya from Myanmar in years, Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to provide humanitarian assistance to the 7,000 migrants still adrift at sea, including offering temporary shelter, provided that the international community takes steps to repatriate them within a year.
Monetary and non-monetary donations for this cause are still welcomed until Sunday (24Â May). Transactions can be done to AM Islamic Bank, Account number: 8881002371199. Name: Asma. Contact number: 01136538331. You can also help by donating directly from your Mahallah.
As Muslims, it is an obligation to respond to the cries of the oppressed. Your sadaqah can send relief to more displaced families. Contribute to ‘Humanitarian Solidarity for Muslim Rohingya and Bangladesh refugees at Aceh, to alleviate the pain and suffering of the Rohingya community.***
