Enhanced connectivity

ANOTHER Malaysia-Singapore Leaders Retreat, the 6th, took place in Singapore yesterday. Intended to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, the Malaysian delegation, led by the prime minister, included six cabinet ministers. The emphasis of the meeting is the improvement of connectivity between the island nation and its logical hinterland, Malaysia. Included in the agenda of discussion, therefore, are issues, such as the High-Speed Rail (HSR) link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore; the Friendship Bridge, an idea mooted at the last retreat and which will complement the Causeway and the Second Link; and, the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the Construction and Operation of Ferry Terminals between the peninsula and Singapore. These three talking points are, to all intents and purposes, concrete proposals looking to be fleshed further by the meetings between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his Singapore counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong.
