MONTH after month, another child, another death. When tragedy strikes in a public place, especially when it involves a child, everyone is quick to point fingers. In the recent case of 6-year-old Nurhayada Sofia, who fell to her death through the gap of an escalator in a shopping mall, the blame was quickly placed on her mother. There were suggestions to imprison her and place her other children in social welfare set-ups. Netizens were quick to upload images of the deadly fall. As a mother, she should have had her attention on her children the entire time, even if it meant not answering a text message. That would be ideal.
