ASEAN Day programme to enhance relationship and cultural exchanges

GOMBAK, 26 April 2015: Students from Asian countries gathered at Male Sport Complex on Sunday (26 April) for a sports tournament on ASEAN Day, Islam and ASEAN, in an attempt at cultural exchanges as well as enhancing relationship among ASEAN students in the campus.

The event was organised through cooperation of ASEAN member-states student societies in IIUM and it was initiated by Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia (PPI). The programme involved students mainly from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippine.

The programme which began early in the morning took place at the Male Sports Complex. Both male and female students were competing there. There were ten tournaments which are futsal, basketball, and badminton, and Captain Ball.

“The concept of the event is to collaborate with ASEAN students in IIUM who share similar culture, thought, value and many more aspects in fun sports activity. It is also intended to foster understanding between players and to tie friendship between committee members,” said ASEAN Day programme manager, Galby Rifqi Samhudi.

He also noted that the programme was a success and he was satisfied which he hoped everyone had enjoyed.

One of the futsal players at the tournament, Adha Lemnoo, said the programme brought positive outcome to all participants. “It was really fun and a useful tournament. We made many new friends from ASEAN countries,” he said.

He looked forward to such great programme again.***
