GOMBAK, 17 April 2014: Poetry recital of Beowulf to Johnson was held today by students from the Department of English Language and Literature, IIUM. This programme has been conducted by Dr. Aimillia Mohd Ramli, one of the lecturers in the department. The lecturer has made this programme compulsory for all her students. This programme started from 8 a.m until 12 p.m at Female Sport Complex, IIUM.
The programme began with aerobic by the students and also with the orphans from Rumah Kasih Harmoni, Keramat Kuala Lumpur. Then, the programme continued with having a breakfast with all those orphans. After having finished taking their meals, the students started to recite the poem in front of everyone.
All of the students were divided into groups. Each group consist of five persons and they can present individually if they want. The lecturer would judge them and 10 marks would be given to those who present very well. Each group also consist of three orphans and the students needed to treat the orphans and give them food. All the groups were required to recite the poem from the poets within 16th century up until 17th century such as John Dome, Shakespeare and Samuel Johnson.
Other than that, a competition was also held by the lecturer for the students. The best presenter would be the winner and others would be in the second and the third places. There was also a lucky draw for all the participants. The gift for lucky draw and the foods were sponsored by Dr. Aimillia Mohd Ramli.
