The good in the Goods and Services Tax

THE government needs to be congratulated for having the guts to carry out the Goods and Services Tax (GST) beginning April 1 this year. While many other nations have implemented the tax, Malaysia has dragged its feet from implementing it although the country aimed to do so as early as 1989, when Tun Daim Zainuddin was then the finance minister and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the prime minister. Thus, Dr Mahathirs recent call for scrapping the GST is not quite right.
