GOMBAK, 7 April 2015: The Academic Staff Association (ASA) will be organising an environmental event called ˜Our River, Our Life on April 22 and 25 in conjunction with the Earth Day 2015, aimed at ensuring the cleanliness of Sungai Pusu, by coming up with an innovation product to reduce water pollution around the campus.
This programme is open to all members of IIUM community including undergraduates, postgraduates and academic fellows.
The highlight will be the ˜IIUM Earth Day Innovation Competition on 22 April. A group of students consisting of five members will be competing to showcase their invented products on how to clean Sungai Pusu. The prizes will be given to five best innovations as follows: 1st place RM5,000, 2nd place RM3,000, 3rd place RM2,000, 4th place RM1,000 and 5th place RM500.
The day will also feature the IIUM Earth Day Song Competition by the students.
Apart from that, there will also be ˜Our River, Our Life Run/Walk conducted on 25 April. All IIUM community members are invited to join the walk around IIUM main road to promote a healthy lifestyle and appreciate the beauty of nature.
The day’s schedule will be followed by the ˜IIUM Pledge a tree/benches in which the ASA is targeting to plant the tree and install benches alongside the main river of IIUM. In the meantime, it is hoped that it will provide a conducive space for students and staffs to relax from hectic days.
The award giving ceremony for all competitions will be held after the events are completed which will be followed with a closing ceremony.
