Alarming no of TB cases should be a wake up call

THE recent disclosure by the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) of the alarming number of tuberculosis (TB) cases among our foreign workers should be viewed as a wake up call by all concerned parties. The health ministry in its recent press response to the MMA disclosure has pointed out that from the year 2003 there has been steady rise in the number of people diagnosed withTB in the country. Last year alone, a whopping 24,710 people nationwide were said to be harbouring the TB-causing microbacterium.
