GOMBAK, 27 February 2015: Some 335 students of Islamic Revealed Knowledge (IRK) and Human Sciences (HS) hooked up together to embark on the IRKHS Gotong-royong 2015 assisted by the Daya Bersih officers around IIUM campus compounds today.

œIts really our aspiration to revive the concept of preserving cleanliness in the true spirit of the traditional Malay culture and in Islam generally. Plus, this programme is also aimed to disseminate the spirit of students’ love of their Kulliyyah buildings and keeping them clean always,” said Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Zein, Dean of IRKHS, at his office today.

He added that students, especially IRK and HS students, should appreciate the facilities provided by the Kulliyyah and always be responsible for the cleanliness of the environment so that they will always be happy to attend their classes or programmes.

He also stated that he got this idea of œgotong royong after discussing with his senior Deputy Director of Deans office, Hamdan Adnan on how to tackle the problems of students’ lack of responsibility on cleanliness of the Kulliyyah compounds.

Generally, this event is held every semester and it will be compulsory for first year students to join and optional for other levels to help in this event too.

œI want to give my highest gratitude for our student leaders such as IRKHS Students Society (IRKHSSS) members and Student Representative Council (SRC) which make this programme a success because of their full-commitment and contribution, he added.

He also hoped that all students regardless of their level (or year) should give good cooperation on Kulliyyah programmes like this.

The programme started as early as 8 a.m when students flooded the HS square and the distribution of breakfast was done by IRKHS secretariat members. A recitation of the du’a was performed by the President of IRKHSSS, Raja Nurnasri Raja Kamaruzzaman.

Students were divided into 10 groups instructed by every chairman of the Kuliyyah-based society (KBS), as Daya Bersih officers also gave their helping hands on cleaning the Kulliyyah compounds. Among the activities conducted were sweeping and mopping the floors, cleaning the toilets, painting the walls and also other activities.

œWhat I can see is many students come to this programme because it is conducted on Friday compared with last semester that was held on Saturday. I am impressed with the attendance and I want to thank all IRKHS secretariat members who are involved in this programme,” said Raja Nurnasri who was in charge of mopping the floor and cleaning the HS compound.

Students were given the evaluation forms by IRKHSSS members right before they took their lunch provided by the Kulliyyah. The programme ended at around 12 noon.***
