Beauty and pain

By Nur Adilah Ramli

Do you think you’ll love yourself
When you’ve finally had
The glass shape you want
The snow visage you want
When all of those that you’ve been dreaming of are finally yours
Will you love yourself then

Will the tears of the pain
From forcing out food
Morph into glitters of happiness
Now that you see bones and nothing more

Will you carve a confident smile
When your face is smooth
With not a minuscule of flaw
Only beauty even for the hidden
Such that people mistake you for an angel
Will you then stop stooping low

You might have been delusional
Pain is not beauty
What you get in return is artificial
Your malnourished body is not beauty
It’s the aftermath of pain

Beauty is cosmetic
But it’s a myth to you
Until your skin loses its beauty to years of pain

You’ll realize it yourself
That beauty is transient
And will be eaten down by worms
As the body lies in bed
