Access to Al-Ghazali Road: SRC launches new petition

By Ajwad Amal

GOMBAK, 16 February 2015: The issue regarding the closure of Al-Ghazali Road is still on-going. Recently, the Students Representative Council (SRC) launched a new petition to gain access through the road for students of IIUM. This followed a rejection of their written request by the Office of Security Management.

œWe received a lot of requests from the students, staff and businessmen for the road to be opened especially after working hours, said Mohd Solihin Che Rozali, Chairperson of Welfare Secretariat SRC IIUM 14/15.

As SRCs representative, Solihin explained the students’ council clearly understood the reasons and concerns of the Office of Security Management: to avoid accident, parking problems and flood consequences. But the SRC, he said, had come out with better suggestions on the solution to resolve the issues.

œWe suggested for more humps to be built across the Al-Ghazali Road in order to avoid accident, said Solihin.  At the same time, he said, we appreciated the action by the  Security Management to put a chained-cone around mahallah to solve the parking problem. He suggested the same thing could be done for Al-Ghazali Road.

œWe have gathered information from many parties and this issue should be voiced out with effective solutions. The request is still to open the Al-Ghazali Road after working hours, on public holidays, and on Saturday and Sunday, said Solihin supporting the idea of providing access to Al-Ghazali Road during certain fixed time that would benefit many people.

œWe plan to have a special meeting with the Director of Security Management Office, Supt. Razali, next Wednesday to discuss this issue further along with our petition and suggestion to resolve the problems, Solihin added.

According to him, the petition is now ready with 4000 signatures from the students and other parties adding that he hoped to achieve a ˜black and white  agreement of both parties.
