IIUM signs MoU with Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association (PPMM) yesterday for a tie-up to organize a 9-day mediation course for professionals of various industries.

The MoU was signed by Rector Prof. Dato’ Seri Zaleha Kamaruddin representing IIUM and Dato’ Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar, representing PPMM.

The mediation course aims to enhance the competency levels of local professionals in various fields, particularly in imparting skills related to communication, presentation, formulation as well as resolving and articulating issues for efficient delivery.

Dato’ Zainal, an alumnus, said that the course was necessary, to produce local professionals who have the necessary skills but lack exposure to communication and negotiation skills to counter the significant presence on foreign firms offering consultancy and advisory services to the government which pose great threat to local professionals.

He added that the course will equip participants with the skills and knowledge in advocating human rights from a Shariah perspective.

He believed the MoU will mark the beginning of a fruitful cooperation in the future.
