Worrying about paying for your petrol price? No parking? Car broke down? Traffic jams? Worry not, get a bicycle!
Bicycle can ease our daily life. How? If you are late to class, you can always cycle to the class without worrying about getting a compound for misplacing the bicycle.
Not to mention that we dont have to worry about air pollution when people started to cycle around the campus. Compare to cars and motorcycles, they combust oil and end up producing all kind of bad gases such as carbon monoxide(CO), hydrocarbons(HC), and nitrogen oxide(NOx). These gases are very harmful to the environment and also to us! Is it not an irony when we are campaigning for others to stop smoking cigarettes because of air pollution while at the same time we are driving our car just to go out buying dinner?
So, start cycling! Not just that we can decrease the rate of air pollution, at the same time we can make ourselves healthier. Cycling is the simplest form of exercise, due to the busyness during class time and we end up being tired upon arrival at our Mahallah, we dont have the time to exercise. However, if you cycle, you can exercise on the bicycle! As simple as cycling to class and going back to Mahallah is enough.
Other than that, we can save ourselves from the hassle of searching for parking. As we are all aware, the campus is in shortage of parking, lecturers, staff, students and even guests have a hard time in searching for parking. Why not we as responsible students to stop using car going to classes and instead cycle? We are not just helping ourselves, but at the same time we are helping our lecturers and others who are in need of parking more than us do. This can be counted as an act of random kindness, which you indirectly help others by not parking your car in the guest parking space. œA small act can contribute to a great cause
Feeling sleepy or weak in the morning class? Cycle to your class! This is because cycling is good in improving our brain power. A group researcher in Illinois University found that cycling led to an improvement up to 15 percent in mental test. This is because cycling helps to build new brain cell in the hippocampus, which is a region that is responsible for memory.
Professor Arthur Kramer said: œIt boosts blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which ï¬res and regenerates receptors, explaining how exercise helps ward off Alzheimers. So, in order to be more proactive in our class, we can start to cycle to class instead of driving which helps us get to class without sweating but at the same time contributing to the air pollution. Not to forget that bicycle runs on fat! This is a way to keep your wallet from crying at the end of every month. As students, we use our money for many purposes such as to buy books, stationaries, foods and more, but if start cycling around the campus, we can cut our petrol budget by half and at the end of the month, we can treat ourselves by spending on things that we cant afford before due to shortage of money.
All in all, cycling helps us in daily life of a student. If IIUM students start to cycle, all of us can benefit from above stated.***
