GOMBAK, 29 November 2014: A road safety campaign has been held in front of Mahallah Safiyyah, IIUM recently. This campaign is a collaboration of three main agencies: Road Safety Department (or Jabatan Keselamatan Jalanraya), Office of Security Management of IIUM, and IIUM Suksis Corp.

Activities such as roadblock, giving free helmet and distribution of road safety pamphlets and stickers about the safe speed were successfully given to the road users in IIUM especially to the students.

Director of Security Management, Supt. Razali Mohamad says: “It is important to keep ourselves safe especially while using any transportation. As we can see today, we are giving free helmet to everybody. At the same time we also issue summons to the students who not follow the rules, for example, not having IIUMs transportation sticker, which is really vital to distinguish them from non-IIUM student or staff.”

He also stated that everybody in IIUM is being supervised in full capacity by the security just to ensure the safety of IIUM community is preserved. “Hopefully they will give cooperation regarding security matter,” he said.

Also present during the campaign was the officer of Road Safety Department, Megawati Md Noor. She hoped this campaign would give benefits to IIUM students to be aware of their safety, especially while riding motorcycle, as we know the number of students riding motorcycles is big, so hopefully they are fully committed toward obeying roads rules and regulations.

For further campaign, there will be full cooperation from nearby police department which is in collaboration with the Department of Road Safety (JKJ), so large scale roadblock will be held in IIUM soon. She also added that the matter of safety should be taken seriously by students in order to reduce accident rate that occurred due to misconduct of road users.

Programme Manager for this event is Muhammad Hanif Nong Chek.  Korr Suksis of IIUM claims that this campaign is not just to issue summon, but the real purpose of this is to get student be more aware of their safety even though they are in parameter of IIUM but they cannot ensure that accident will not happen on them.

This campaign ended with charity giving food to the students who pass by the roadblock.
