Sedition Act to stay

FOR a multiracial and multicultural country like Malaysia, preserving peace and stability has always been a top priority. The countrys economic growth, success of its business community and harmony between the various races and cultures over the years are testament to the track record of the nations leaders in balancing the complex needs and concerns of our plural society. It was, therefore, appropriate that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak chose his policy speech at the Umno General Assembly 2014 yesterday to announce that the Sedition Act 1948 would be retained to ensure a peaceful, stable and harmonious country for all Malaysians. This was, after all, the annual gathering of the countrys biggest Malay party, and backbone of Barisan Nasional, the ruling coalition.
