GOMBAK, 6 November 2014: The handing over of the new mahallah at IIUM’s medical campus in Kuantan was successfully carried out following a ceremony conducted at the campus officiated by President of IIUM Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim yesterday.
The new mahallah is another effort by the university to improve on the facilities for medical students to provide them with comfortable environment for their studies.
Accompanying the President at the ceremony were the Rector of IIUM, Prof. Datuk Seri Zaleha Kamaruddin, the Campus Director of IIUM Kuantan, Prof. Datuk Dr. Tariq Abdul Razak and Director of Sasaran Etika, Datuk Subahan Kamal.
Speaking to reporters after the launching, Tan Sri Dr. Rais Yatim said: ‘This mahallah will not only reduce the burden of the students but will also facilitate their journey to attend classes at the Kuliyyah.
After two years of waiting, finally the hostels were completed last October with ability to accommodate about 5,000 students, with 500 parking lots allocated for the students and staffs.
The new mahallah is divided into three zones: the first zone is Mahallah Khalid Al-Walid for male students, and the other two zones are for females, Mahallah Fatimah Az-Zahra and Mahallah Ummu Khalsom.
