KUALA LUMPUR: More than 50 homeless people from all walks of life and various age groups, lined up along the road at the back of the Tune Hotel as they were waiting for the food to be distributed.
As part of the volunteers, nine IIUM students with the hearts of gold join forces as they reach out for the homeless people by participating in a distributing food program.
œI feel very happy to attend such event that makes me ponder upon myself on how I should be grateful of whatever I have compared to the homeless who are striving every day, just for a slice of food. said Megat Al-Hanis, a Political Science student in IIUM.
The group of IIUM students that goes by the name of ˜freAKLancer participated in a volunteering program to show their support of those in need of man power in providing such services in collaboration with Pertiwi Soup Kitchen.
Megat Al-Hanis led the group to provide them the first-hand experiences on how to work in such volunteering program with hopes of managing and organizing their own volunteering program in the future.
They started out by observing how the organizing members work and after a while they were given the opportunity to join in and distribute food and beverages.
Pertiwi Soup Kitchen along with Zuhri Yuhyi from Young Muslims Project, who was also the driver and the bouncer of the night were among the organizers of the program.
The groups traveled with numbers of car to reach their destinations which were located behind Tune Hotel at Jalan Tun Ismail and around Kota Raya.
The locations chosen were amongst the ˜hot-spot where most of homeless people will be spotted, either lingering or seeking comfort along the street.
The increasing amount of homeless people in the city was an eye-sore and a heartbreaking reality that our so called developing country has to face nowadays.
